| 12/11/2009 | Seminar on An Energy Company's Perspective on Air Quality Objectives Venue: Room FJ303, Block J, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Organizer: IET-HK Management Section Electricity and oil are two of the most important energy sources in Hong Kong. The former has always accounted for over 60% of total primary energy consumption per year while oil plays a dominant role in transportation. ExxonMobil, one of the largest energy firms in the world, is engaged in supplying power and oil products to the local market. This presentation intends to give an overview of the global energy outlook and the critical role of technology played to meeting tomorrow's energy needs and to mitigate the growth of emissions associated with energy use. | 15/05/2010 | Seminar on Electrical, ELV and Vertical Transportation Installation for ICC Organizer: Management Section of IET Hong Kong Abstract: Standing at a height of more than 490 meters with over 100 storeys, the International Commerce Centre (ICC) located on the prime land of the West Kowloon region will be the tallest skyscraper in Hong Kong by 2010. This skyscraper will contain 250,000 square metres of Grade A office space, an observation deck, and the 6-star Ritz Carlton Hotel at the top, and accommodate over 20,000 people combined. The building will utilize seven lift zones, three sky-lobbies and four main mechanical floors to serve the international tenants in the most economical and energy-efficient manner possible. Secure and reliable electrical and ELV systems and flexible and expedient elevating system pose formidable challenges to all engineers. | 26/05/2012 | How to improve Business / Project Performance Seminar on “How to improve Business / Project Performance – Partnership, Risk Management and Value Management” Synopsis: In this world of ever-changing and full of new technologies, the management model in all business should also change to meet the customers’ increasing demands and expectations. As a result of traditional hierarchy management approach, there are many examples in cost and time overruns, and even disputes resolved in the Court. What are the reasons behind? Numerous research studies concluded that lack of team spirit, no sense of crisis and no encouragement of creativities are the key factors. Nowadays, Partnering, Risk Management and Value Management are promoted and being implemented in all major infrastructure projects and some large-scale private developments in order to improve the team and the Project performance. The essences of NEC (New Engineering Contract), which will be fully implemented by the Government of HKSAR in the near future, are also based in these three areas. The speaker will share his experiences and best practices in these areas with the participants and hopes that the sharing will enhance each other's business in a much smoother manner. About the Speaker: Mr. KH Fok fulfilled various roles in the Civil and Foundation engineering industry for nearly 30 years. His thorough grasp of the NEC3 and other forms of contract have helped in his successful management of more than 50 construction projects including the Tin Shui Wai Site Formation, the 155m deep large diameter bored pile in Tung Chung and the piling works for the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal. KH is a highly experienced and popular facilitator with an astute understanding of the cross-cultural working environment in Hong Kong, has been facilitating more than 400 workshops in partnering, value management and risk management. KH was appointed by the Housing Authority for a series of partnering workshops and post completion review workshops from 2005 to 2010. He is currently appointed as the partnering lead facilitator for all MTR WIL and SIL(E) contracts and the Risk Manager for some large scale infrastructure projects. |

About the Speaker Mr Marco Szeto Yuen-Kit 司徒元傑先生is an acute artist and professional curator. He studied BEd in Art Education at the University of Warwick in the 80s. During his study, he was the first Hong Kong student to hold a solo art exhibition in the university and his works were collected by the university and Coventry city museum. In the 90s, he obtained his Master Degree in Chinese Art History from the University of Hong Kong and Post-graduate Diploma in Museum Studies from the Sydney University. He is currently the curator of Xubaizhai of the Hong Kong Museum of Art. Marco was awarded the Chief Executive’s Commendation for Public Service in 2010, for his outstanding contribution to the promotion of Chinese painting and calligraphy in Hong Kong About the Talk Marco has organized many exhibitions including the renowned national treasures Riverside Scenery at the Qingming Festival (清明上河圖) from the Palace Museum and Prosperous Suzhou (姑蘇繁華圖) from the Liaoning Museum , and also many solo exhibitions of 20th century masters such as Wu Guanzhong (吳冠中) and Feng Zikai (豐子愷). The artworks attest to unquestionable artistic and academic value that makes the exhibitions epitomize the glory of the Chinese culture and art. The talk will be a retrospection on the organization of these memorable events. He is now a Senior Regional Manager of a multinational company. He takes up numerous volunteer and charity roles in HK. He is a father of 2 sons. Mr. Leung Wing Lok, a father of 2, over 10 years working in mass media; writing and editorial experiences in Ming Pao – Education Section.
