Venue: N002, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
Speaker: Dr. Edmund Lee, Executive Director, Hong Kong Jockey Club Institute of Chinese Medicine Ltd.
The engineering and manufacturing sector of Hong Kong is going into a new era. Instead of a floor production base, the Hong Kong industries are acting as the design, planning, quality control and customer service sector to oversee the Pearl River Delta. One of the fastest developments is biochemical production including Chinese medicine, where Hong Kong owns comparative advantages and niches.
Given the unmet medical needs and the increasingly sophisticated expectations of the public towards health promotion and treatment of illnesses, the prospect of developing science and evidence-based Chinese medicines and health-related products is good. With the commitment of both the mainland and local authorities and the strategic advantages of Hong Kong over the internationalisation and modernisation of Chinese medicine, the HKJCICM has laid a solid foundation towards spearheading development through quality, science, evidence and applications. Drawing experience from current regulations, development initiatives and specific research cases, Dr Lee will share with the audience the importance of quality across the CM-based product development value chain. | 08/10/2005 | IEE Membership & CEng Professional Registration Workshop Venue: BC516, Hongkong Polytechnic University

RFID isn't new anymore. The demand for RFID Systems is ever increasing. The RFID Industry figures to go up from US $1.95 billion in 2005 to $26.9 billion in 2015. The RFID vendors are increasingly gaining from the sale of RFID hardware components and solutions.
The RFID applications are currently used for supply chain, security/access control, toll collection, airport baggage tracking, animal tracking, automobile immobilization, and many others. Newer applications are being developed where the RFID Systems can be used, especially in the Asia country. Various end users in the vertical markets will be able to derive direct benefits from the RFID systems integrators. Different plans that have been implemented in the economic sectors: Wal-Mart, Metro AG, Target, Tesco, and the government.
More consumer goods item level tagging will open new leads in the RFID market. This can lead to reduced costs and labors of the vendors and lesser crimes against theft. Better customer satisfaction is another area that can be tapped easily by investment in the RFID sector.
