06/08/2016Visit Visit to T- PARK Tuen Mun ( 香港污泥處理中心)
Located at Tsang Tsui, Tuen Mun, T PARK is one of the most technologically advanced facilities of its kind in the world. With a well-designed self-sustaining operational system. T PARK combines a variety of advances technologies into a single complex, bringing together sludge incinerators with a treatment capacity of up to 2000 tonnes of sludge per day, with power generation, desalination, educational and ecological facilities to showcase the benefits of the waste-to-energy approach in waste management. Seventy percent of T ∙PARK is covered by green features, including a 5-themed landscape garden, green roofs and a wetland habitat for wildlife. Approximately 1,200 trees and 350,000 shrubs are planted, the majority of which are native Using a proven and reliable thermal technology known as “fluidised bed” incineration to treat sewage sludge, it significantly reduces waste volume for landfill disposal. Heat energy generated during the treatment process is converted into electricity to support the entire Facility’s daily operations, and surplus power is exported to public power grid. The Belt and Road Initiative of China focuses on improving and creating new trade routes and business opportunities with over sixty countries. Transport and logistics are its integral components. Many in Hong Kong want to avail themselves of the opportunities presented by the Belt and Road Initiative; some have been positioning themselves accordingly. This seminar invites speakers to address issues related to in the context of the Belt and Road initiative based on their own experience, and the implications for Hong Kong. A special session on an initiative introduced by the HK SAR Government to assist local SMEs in related endeavours is also prepared. Visit Date: 24 June 2017 The Old Tai Po Police Station in Hong Kong is a Grade 1 historic building, built in 1899. In 2010, Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden (KFBG) was selected by the Development Bureau to transform the heritage site into a "Green Hub for Sustainable Living” under Batch II of the "Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme" (Revitalisation Scheme). The aim of the Green Hub project is to transform the Old Tai Po Police Station into an influential landmark for Hong Kong and the region to promote sustainable living and integrated conservation by: a) adopting an integrated approach to conserve the historic and architectural values, the heritage trees, and the egretry of ecological importance; b) serving as a centre for developing, teaching and promoting simple, affordable and meaningful initiatives for ecologically-responsible and low-carbon living; and c) promoting a range of training and educational programmes to help people understand and tackle the most pressing ecological and social concerns of modern life. We will also visit the Hong Kong Railway Museum where is situated in the town center of Tai Po Market, the Hong Kong Railway Museum is an open-air museum occupying some 6,500 square meters converted from the old Tai Po Market Railway Station. Erected in 1913, the station building features the pitched roof of traditional Chinese building. It was declared a monument in 1984, refurbished and opened as a museum in 1985. Date: 21 October 2017 We are living in an overcrowded airspace. The current Instrument Landing System (ILS) can no longer entertain increasing the capacity in most commercial airport. The development of next generation navigation and landing system is mandatory for aviation safety and greater capacity. For outsiders, the understanding of the primary navigation systems will help us understand more about the situation. This also pave a foundation in understanding next generation navigation and landing. By introducing a new positioning and landing system based on the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), we shall have a better picture of future navigation and better solution of the overcrowded airspace. Over the years, IGDS graduates were from various fields of work.Having learnt the knowledge from the courses, they continued to explore their business development in new horizons. IGDSAA have invited two distinguished alumnus who have achieved an extraordinary business development and would like to share their experiences and strategy. All alumni and current students are all invited to join this seminar and hereby is the bibliography of the two speakers. Mr. Thomas Chiu (B.Sc. M.Sc. LL.B. EMBA) Professionally trained as a physiotherapist, Mr. Thomas Chiu ventured into the business field subsequently. He has taken up regional positions in the French company Bacou-Dalloz followed by Fortune 100 US gigantic conglomerate Honeywell. He is in charge of business and execution of joint-development plans to major clients, distribution partners and governmental authorities throughout his region. He specializes in branding and business process re-engineering. With his expertise in the industry as well as his experience in managing multinational business, he has been invited as guest speaker in different government departments and universities in Asia. Moreover, Mr. Chiu is a writer of Headline News 《New Ideas in Management》 (商識滿天下) column and also the founder of the popular 《Octopus Parents》 (八爪魚家長) series column in Mingpao and other media. Mr. Chiu founded Octopus Group, focusing in education and entertainment service for children. In three years Octopus Group has expended to Shenzhen and Dongguan and it was acquired by listed company in Hong Kong for further development. Currently Mr. Chiu is a partner of Fullerene Consulting which provides PR, business strategic consultation and execution services to private and listed companies. Mr. Chiu is also the program director of SME NEXT Academy which aims to assist SMEs in Hong Kong to explore and expand in new markets. Mr. Chiu was an Appointed Member of the Tsuen Wan District Council of The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of The People Republic of China, a Past President of the Rotary Club of Central under Rotary International District 3450, and also a member of the Youth Executive Committee of the Hong Kong Chiu Chow Chamber of Commerce Ms. Bonnie Lam (B.Sc.
