Pok Oi Cycle for Millions

A team of 5 alumni participated in the “Pok Oi Cycle for Millions” charity event on 12 April 2015, which was a grand annual fundraising event held by Pok Oi Hospital. This year, there were about 6,500 participants. The cycling path was along the Stonecutters Island Bridge then through the South Bay Tunnel, and returned. During the ride, with superb sunray, the stunning harbour scenery and the view of container terminals were alongside the bridge which captured a lot of photos. It was a magnificent experience of warm-hearted exercise.

Central District Heritage Walk
Central District Heritage Walk

An innovative activity, with overwhelming feedback, was held on 15 March 2015. The participants gathered at Duddell Street under the antique town gas lamp posts. 3 groups were led by alumni, Chan Cho-yee, Raymond Kwong and Ricky Shum, who either were raised in Central or had been living there for long time. A lot of remarkable spots were along the tour such as the Catholic Cathedral, Old Central Police Station & Victoria Prison, Dr. Sun Yat Sen’s revolution secret chambers, PMQ, YMCA Building (class 1 historical building), Wing Lee Street, Ladder Street, Tai Ping Shan Street, Possession Street, etc, which painted a picture of the life in the olden days of Hong Kong. Could it be more satisfied by ending with a traditional Cantonese cuisine at 蓮香樓 with dishes like stuffed duck, baked fish gizzard and a lot others?

The ExCo and Sub-com members with other alumni sat together for a leisure and free chitchatting. It was a valuable chance to share the ideas for the future development of our Alumni Association.

Contribution is one of the 3 missions of our Alumni Association. On 1 February 2015, a team of 10 alumni & friends participated in the meaningful event “Oxfam Walkathon 2015”, which was a fundraising program for poverty alleviation. The walk started at the Peak Galleria along Harlech Road and Lugard Road. It was an hour of about 2 km leisure trail in which the panoramic views from Central district to Aberdeen were under the heel. Meeting Dr. Roy Chung, our Honorary President, during the walk was really a surprise. This added bonus to our team completed the walk in the fullest sense of the word.

Technical Visit to Ngong Ping 360
Technical Visit to Ngong Ping 360

Ngong Ping 360 is destined to be one of the Hong Kong’s “must see” attractions. On 18 October, a group of 30 participants attended the technical visit in the morning followed by a leisure free time in Ngong Ping. Opened in September 2006, Ngong Ping cable car is a 5.7km bi-cable gondola lift system, which is the longest one in Asia of the same system with only 8 towers built. In the technical visit, we were able to know about the operations, control facilities, safety and emergency measures by a comprehensive presentation and garage visit. The magnificent scene and panoramic view of Lantau Island were embedded in the eyesight during the crystal (glass bottom) cabin journey, and it was a memorable experience! With mild sunshine and light breeze, everyone enjoyed a pleasant afternoon no matter with a leisure trail walk, an exercising climb to the Buddha, a relaxing visit of Tai O fishing village, or a beer along the promenade…
