Boating & Water Sports

To enjoy the lovely sunshine and gentle sea breeze, 32 members with families of MILESAA and IGDSAA set off for boating to Sai Kung Ung Kong Wan. Some could not wait to jump into the water right upon yacht anchored. Some preferred a sip of drink with relaxing chitchat and simultaneously watching the coral zone. The youngsters were eager for their turn on wakeboard, banana boat and paddling the canoe. Guess what? Some jelly fishes were around and a brave man showed his courage in approaching. A delicious seafood lunch was served with content. Everyone enjoyed the outing day on return to pier, carried the faces with a bit of sunburn but laughter.

Seminar on Routes to Professionalism
Seminar on Routes to Professionalism

With beautiful afternoon sunshine, the seminar on Routes to Professionalism was successfully held on 21 June 2014 at M1603 Li Ka Shing Tower with 90 participants. The Dean of Faculty of Engineering HKPU, Professor HC Man, conducted the opening speech for the event. Guest speakers from HKIE, IETHK and SOEHK delivered the informative presentations, which were enlightening and thought-provoking. The audience had positive feedback with questions covering a wide spectrum of disciplines. The interactive sharing definitely helped our alumni and students to pursue and escalate along the pathway towards further professional qualifications.

Visit to Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal
Visit to Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal

An enlightened experience of visit to Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal was held on 13 June 2014 with 30 participants. The cargo terminal is in full operation since October 2013, which costs HK$5.9 billion and is the latest one in the world with the most advanced technologies of management. In-depth introduction to the systems, control center, infrastructure, layout, mechanism, automatic processing, flexible handling, was thoroughly explained. Their just-in-time business model is successfully executed with application of RFID technology. The waiting and handling time is greatly reduced from 2~3 hours to about 30 minutes. Further advancement of efficiency and effectiveness for aiming another breakthrough is under planning. The overwhelming interest and positive feedback of participants are impressive too.

Nam Chung Eco Agriculture handcraft workshop
Nam Chung Eco Agriculture handcraft workshop

You cannot imagine what you can do with reed if you have not ever tried it before. By cutting the tip of dried reed and dipping it into ink, you can draw line, point and whatever you want onto the paper. You can further put your artwork onto bamboo tile or canister. See how everyone enjoyed it! It was so nice having a wonderful morning in such a tranquil environment. More importantly, our little effort of contributing the fundraising (HK$4,800) to the Partnership for Eco Agriculture and Conservation of Earth for preserving the land in Nam Chung.

Project/PMA Sharing Session
Project/PMA Sharing Session

About 50 students packed in the classroom listening to project experience sharing by our 4 alumni: Walter Fung, Tui Li, Jane Wong and Andrew Yan. Introduction of speakers was done by Elinor Cheuk, President of IGDS Alumni Association. Aspects of research method, mentality of dealing with project and PMA, planning and time management, writing up and format of dissertation etc. were shared with the students, followed by Q&A and closing remark by Johnson Lau, Vice President of IGDSAA.

Urban Hiking
Urban Hiking

Another hiking activity organized by Frances Lui on 23 March 2014. The route was from Quarry Bay to Tai Tam Reservoir – an urban walk. Tai Tam Reservoir took some 35 years to complete since 1883. On the day, there were 17 participants including alumni and students, which was the largest hiking group of similar event. During the walk, all shared with broad experiences and topics. A good chance for interaction via such a leisure occasion. Let’s enjoy the nice weather and relaxed time. See you next time!

BBQ party
BBQ party

To thank the working committee and student helpers for making a successful annual dinner 2013, a joyful BBQ party was held on 7 March 2014 at the clubhouse of Liberte, Lai Chi Kok. Around 30 alumni and students attended, as well as Prof. TC Lee our Hon. Advisor cum former Director of Studies. All participants enjoyed much the wonderful varieties of food and beverages. On such a cozy occasion, the students shared freely with the seniors about their studies, living, plans… The President wanted to thank for some students who had helped on food preparation in the afternoon. Some more than 10 students played bowling happily at the clubhouse in the afternoon too. All in all, it was a delightful evening by seeing the laughter on everyone’s face.

Spring Dinner
Spring Dinner

An honour to invite our Hon. Advisors Prof. WS Lau, Prof. TC Lee, Prof. HC Man, and Hon. President Dr. SW Lui to attend the spring dinner on 18 February 2014. All ExCo members, some sub-committee members and two class representatives were in presence. The seniors shared with all their opinions and ideas of planning for the Program and Alumni Association, which were much benefited to the roadmap of future development.
