Introduction to Six Sigma Breakthrough

The Introduction to Six-Sigma Breakthrough seminar was another full house function on 29 July 2006. There were over 100 attendees, including members and VIPs from the organizing bodies and the manufacturing & engineering industries. The seminar started with an Introduction & Theory of Six Sigma presented by Mr Daniel Yu, President & Founding Member of SSS. It was then followed by the Application & Experience Sharing of Six Sigma in the Context of Manufacturing Industry delivered by Mr Richard Tse, Vice Chairman of IET-HK MIES. Detail discussion concentrated on a Six-Sigma project performed in The Avery Dennison. After the break Mr Jason Kong & Mr Edgar Luk shared with us the Grand Award winning project of CLP Power in the 1st Hong Kong Six Sigma Convention 2005. It covered the improved coal pulverizer availability by application of six sigma DMAIC approach.

One day study mission to China - Eva Group & Chen Hsong Industrial Park

On 24 June 2006, over 50 IGDS alumni enjoyed a fruitful day in China. The first factory visit was EVA group in Shenzhen. After a brief introduction in the conference room, a tour around various departments and production lines was conducted. Participants had a deeper understanding on the manufacturing of office equipment parts. In the afternoon, participants visited Chen Hsong industrial park at Shenzhen. During which, the manufacturing and testing of various types of injection moulding machines were introduced. Two seminars were held after the factory visit. Mr. Peter Chiu presented the ERP system called I-Chen, which was developed by Chen Hsong. The system focused on solving shop floor production problems. Public Speaking Presentation Skills Workshop
Public Speaking Presentation Skills Workshop

With the cooperation and assistance from Toastmasters Club Hong Kong Division, 3 sessions of public speaking presentation skills workshop were held on 24 May, 1 June and 16 June 2006. The 1st session was conducted in Cantonese focus on how to prepare a speech and speak with confidence and tips on handling table topics. The 2nd session was conducted in English with a demo speech and experience sharing by a Hong Kong contester in the 2006 Toastmasters Club District 80 Speech Contest. The 3rd session was also conducted in English focusing on use of voice and body gesture. Besides the presentations from Toastmasters, there were practice and feedback section in each workshop to allow participants the opportunity to speak before the workshop audience and listen to comments from evaluators. There were 45 alumni and students enrolled for the event with actual participants of 29, 17 and 13 for the 3 workshop sessions respectively.

Manufacturing Quality Seminar
Manufacturing Quality Seminar

The Manufacturing Quality Seminar on Developing Chinese Medicine for International Market was held on 10 September afternoon. There were around 50 attendees from different sectors of the manufacturing and engineering industry of Hong Kong. The program started with an opening ceremony; followed with a presentation by Dr Edmund Lee, Executive Director of Hong Kong Jockey Club Institute of Chinese Medicine Ltd, shared with the audience the importance of quality across the Chinese medicine based product development value chain. Moreover Dr Kevin Chu, Technical Director of PuraPharm International (HK) Ltd introduced to us their quality systems in manufacturing. An active Q&A session was entailed discussing on the real situation and issuing being faced by the industry.
